Frequently Asked Questions

What is Arts in Prescot?
Arts in Prescot is a non-profit, volunteer-run community organisation that organises and promotes arts and cultural events in Prescot and the surrounding area. The programme is year-round, but the focus of the year is the Annual Prescot Festival of Music and the Arts, the first of which was held in June 2005. In 2007 it ran to 10 days for the first time.

Who runs Arts in Prescot?
The Prescot Festival was founded by local teacher and musician Dr Robert Howard, who remains Artistic Director. David Kernick is Assistant Director. Together, they manage the day-to-day running of Arts in Prescot and the Festival. There is also a formal committee, with a proper constitution, and an informal group of faithful volunteers known as the Friends of the Festival.

Is Arts in Prescot/Prescot Festival a charity?
Although at the moment everything we do is solely reliant on the generosity of the public, Arts in Prescot does not currently have charitable status. It is a priority for the future, however.

Are you connected to the Council?
The Festival is proud to have an excellent working relationship with both Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Prescot Town Council, but neither the Festival nor Arts in Prescot is officially connected to either council.

How is the Festival funded?
The Festival is funded through donations from a variety of groups and private donors. Rotary Club of Rainhill, Rotary Club of Prescot and Prescot Town Council are just a few of the organisations who have generously funded concerts and events. Private individuals have also regularly given gifts ranging from a few pounds to a few hundred. The Friends of the Festival regularly organises fundraising events such as quiz evenings and cabarets, and most events provide an opportunity for a collection and raffle.

How can I get involved?
Everyone is welcome to get involved in whatever way they can. Four meetings are held each year for the committee and Friends of the Festival. These meetings are open to the general public. See here for a list of dates and times. Feel free to contact us if you would like any more information.

Where and what is Prescot, anyway?
Prescot is a historic town in Knowsley on Merseyside. It is one of the oldest in the region; indeed, the saying goes that "there was a Prescot before ever there was a Liverpool". You can read more about it here.

Can I advertise my event on here?
Yes! If you have an arts event in Prescot or the surrounding area, contact us, and we'd be happy to do our best to publicise your event.
